Ancient healing systems foster the belief that ”the body is the shadow of the soul”. Even Plato made comment on the connection of the mind and body over two and a half thousand years ago.
“You ought not attempt to cure the body without the soul; and this is the reason why the cure of many diseases is unknown to the physicians of Helias, because they are ignorant of the whole, which ought to be studied also; for the part can never be well unless the whole is well. … Let no one persuade you to cure the head until he has first given you his soul to be cured by the charm (today known this could be recognized as psychotherapy, counseling, talk therapy, etc) for this is the great error of our day in the treatment of the human body, that the physicians separate the soul from the body.” Plato: Charmides.
What this meant then and today is that what affects one part of our being will impact on all others.
While the wider community is still challenged to come to a metaphysical understanding of the relationship between consciousness, mind and the body and the beneficial physiological and indirect lifestyle changes; today’s natural and alternative healing modalities healers intuitively respond to the need of our clients holistically in order for the body and mind to return to a balanced and healthy state.
Thankfully, scientific research has dipped its toe into thee mind body connection - giving credence and recognition to the study of mind body medicine. In 1975, Dr. Robert Ader coined the term Psychoneuroimmunology to express his belief that there is a link between the way people think and their overall health. Something the ancients knew and Natural therapists recognize today.
Psychoneuroimmunology is one of the newest areas of health research which indicates there is a connection between strong emotions like fear, rage and anger and the strength of our immune system. When these emotions are not expressed correctly there is an excess of epinephrine, the stress secretion. Epinephrine then causes a chemical breakdown that result in a weakened immune system and susceptibility to disease.
The medical fraternity is beginning to recognise, that many of our health issues are created by emotional issues. Issues that can include among others things - parenting, dealing with problems, our body image, putting up with things, being selective in how we spend our time, or what we take on life, how we react to situations, people, events. In other words, how we relate to our environment and ourselves.
It is not what is happening around us but rather how we see it and respond to it which determines how stressful something is and how much damage it can inflict on us emotionally and psychologically. After all events are just events unless our thinking interprets them as stressful or threatening.
Healing, using mind body therapies usually begins by promoting physical and mental relaxation, and developing better ways of coping with stress. One of the most effective life-balancing tools is leaning how to focus the mind and learning to relax and let go, this can be achieved through meditation or other various natural therapies available to us including: holistic pulsing, reiki, psychotherapy, hypnotherapy, and relaxation therapy. These therapies can help transform our stress into strength, our pain into peace, our fear into freedom and are all practical ways of coping with stress, enabling us to:-
Step One
Remember … life-balancing and healing is about self responsibility, you have to WANT the change and act on that desire. Nature’s laws are uncanny in their ability to decipher between those things we’d LIKE to do and those things that that we truly WANT or DESIRE to do. the word “want” holds an enormous strength of desire and personal will, while the word “like” is often too close to the resignation of a possibility and lacks commitment, passion, dedication and drive.
So, if we wish to resolve or release any hinder energy patterns that are interfering with our vitality and physical wellbeing, we must WANT to fix our emotional problems.
Step Two
Being able to achieve a state of restful alertness helps us to become more aware of our individual thought patterns – particularly those thoughts which are dominant when our life is not in balance and unhealthy; these are typically those which can make us angry, anxious or depressed.
These thought patterns are toxic to the mind as well as the body, enabling certain chemicals within the body to affect and lower our immune system and other various systems and organs in the body. For example if there is inflammation existing somewhere in the body, i.e. rheumatoid arthritis, feeling overloaded, fear or anger will aggravate the inflammation.
By firstly WANTING or DESIRING life-balance and becoming aware of your thoughts you are opening the way for the infinitely complex systems to become healthy in mind, body and spirit.
Utilizing Mind-body therapies helps to alleviate many conditions due to the promotion of relaxation, they assist us to improve our coping skills, reduce tension and pain, and lessen the need for medication. For example, many mind body techniques and therapies are used (along with medication) to treat acute pain. Symptoms of anxiety and depression also respond well to mind-body techniques and therapies.
Working with these natural therapies improve coping skills and give a feeling of control over symptoms, it may be time for you to look toward using natural and alternative therapies in conjunction with your doctor to help with:
Healing is mostly about applying the laws of nature, observing and implementing the natural principles of balance, flow, change and adaption. Cultivate an awareness of both yourself and your environment, enhance your minds impact on your body by tapping into your thought patterns and memories, become aware of them, then learn to let them go, empowering you to have more control in your life, more control of your mind body connection and ultimately your health. It is, in a manner of speaking, a process of self discovery….. And how exciting is that?!!

Have you ever experienced the energies of your body with full awareness?
While completing my Diploma and teachers training in Holistic Pulsing, Voice Dialogue was a powerful tool used to access deeper emotions held within the body. To explain, Voice Dialogue is an energetic process which involves a facilitator who may speak with one or more Selves (also known as “parts” in other therapies) allowing the participant and the facilitator to have a deeper experience of each Self, while at the same time learning about the concerns, rules, needs and history particular to that Self. The information received is often amazingly clear and previously unknown by the conscious mind of the participant.
This is the magic of what we call “dialoguing” in Holistic Pulsing. As a client, it is an amazing feeling to be both witness and participant in your own life, even for just a moment while you access and embrace the wider range of who you truly are.
I would like to share with you a personal experience of Dialoguing in Holistic Pulsing. To complete a Diploma in Holistic Pulsing it is a requirement that you attend a number of supervisory sessions and tutorials with your teacher. On one occasion I arrived at my teachers home with a feeling of being pulled in many directions – full time work, volunteer commitments, study, family and relationships. Sally and I discussed and explored the issues that were concerning me that day, I was quite emotional, knowing that certain situations needed to change, but what could I do? After all I have managed so far.
We began our Pulsing session in the usual way, my body and mind relaxing with each gentle rhythmic sway, calming my busy mind chatter. As my mind slowed down into the Alpha state my awareness was taken to the area on my body Sally was pulsing, the rocking taking me deeper within, releasing the stress and tension being held. In this state we are able to contact the unconscious mind, that part of us that holds all experiences acquired throughout our life; all those experiences, leanings, drive, motivations and needs for interacting in our world.
While pulsing my solar plexus chakra area, Sally invited me to experience that part of my body, nothing else, not to control or analyse it, just be aware. As she continued to pulse gently I stayed with the awareness, noticing the sensations that were felt in that area of my body, the feelings. This awareness revealed to me thoughts of inadequacy, guilt, sadness, and a sense of being caged. All signs of being disconnected to my inner self. After awhile Sally invited me to give those sensations and feelings a voice, asking what would that part say?
And so began a deeper journey of understanding myself even more. In allowing that voice to speak aloud about how it needed to help others to feel accepted, to be wanted and relied upon, I learnt so much. I re experienced the energy of what I feel when people say they needed something, whether that be money, time (even when I know I will be having to move heaven and earth to meet the deadline) I want to help them, please them, and I do, I say yes every time... It is very addictive to be needed. And so this part went on and explained its reason for being a part of me. I acknowledged this part and thanked it for being there gaining much understanding from its presence.
Sally then invited the opposite part of this “Pleaser” to speak. The energy I than felt was one of strength and clarity; it was assertive and knew exactly what it wanted, it voiced its concerns, even offered some advice. I learnt that I needed to look after myself and say no. I don’t have to please everyone, that I can to allow time for me and not feel guilty. One interesting fact is that these “parts” spoke in the third person referring to me as “she” and it as “I”. After completing the session and debrief, Sally reminded me to take note and reflect on how to incorporate the experience and insights these parts have shared into my life.
Utilsing Voice Dialogue in any therapy is an exciting tool, clients are able to discover the many parts of themselves in a safe and accepting environment. For those who live in their head a whole new universe of feeling and awareness opens. And those who are so energetically open that they connect with everyone and everywhere having no boundaries, they get to experience a wonderful feeling of independence and energetic containment, giving them the pleasure and empowerment of connecting without giving themselves away and having access to more of themselves. Further information on Voice Dialogue can be found at www.voicedialogue.com.au
Combining Holistic Pulsing and Voice Dialogue has allowed me to open the door to a pathway of wholeness, self discovery and a feeling of being truly connected with myself. There are many gentle therapies available for you to experience which will help you in reclaiming yourself, Holistic Pulsing may be one of them. Remember, wherever you are in your life, your journey can start now, are you ready to take the next step to know yourself more fully?

Managing our busy lives, and creating room for more relaxation is very important if not crucial for our overall well being.
Today, many of us are finding that the gentle healing approach of Holistic Pulsing can assist in managing and reducing the stressors, tension and bodily aches and pains we can all experience on a daily basis. Pulsing allows us to fully experience that state of peaceful relaxation, enjoying a better night's sleep and feeling more alive, motivated and joyful within ourselves.
Holistic Pulsing has a natural and empowering ability in providing a space for the client to become fully present and totally aware of their body while experiencing the rocking and pulsing movements. This space gifts us the ability of tuning in and taking the time to really listen in to the body and mind. Our bodies are constantly talking to us, guiding us to what is good and what isn't good for us.
Holistic Pulsing guides the body and mind to communicate, giving our body a chance to be heard and to make proactive, healthy choices in our life. We all know that our minds are powerful creators, that it is very important to be aware and acknowledge the thoughts we think, and the words we say, and how they can affect our body and ultimately our lives. By being aware of the effects of our thoughts and words on our bodies and daily lives we can learn to exchange negative thoughts with positive and effectively we are then able to change our world. During these economic challenges we may have little control over our external environment but we can with a little effort begin to control our inner landscape.. so start saying "I can", "I am able" and "it is possible" and take note of the small (even large) miracles that can happen and flow into your life.
Allowing yourself to hold this space is very powerful... the subconscious mind emerges bringing new ideas, understandings, answers and acknowledgements .... our subconscious mind does not sit in judgment of our thoughts or actions but will supply the all the answers we need to feel better about our self, increase our motivation and if required our recovery. We but need to listen and hear with a clear mind, free of fear, doubt and limitation.
Its just one of the reasons why I love Holistic Pulsing. Within moments it can take you into this space of deep relaxation, with each pulsing experience you go even deeper, the body trusts the movement, the feelings of safety and nurturing increase. With the introduction of other healing tools such as NLP, and Voice Dialogue, the ability to connect with your body and mind improves significantly, allowing and honouring the natural flow of positive creation energy and thoughts amplifiying outcomes as well as trigger points for further explanation and healing through touch and voice. This natural flow and transition helps you make that deep within connection where you will discover the inner healer, that part within each of us that can be called upon to help transform the imbalance or illness of body, mind, emotions, or behaviour.
Holistic Pulsing will help you to discover a deep healing, to create wholeness and wellness, and empowering you to awaken the experience of balance, strength, inspiration, and love. Through working with the mind and body, and creating a positive mental attitude, Holistic Pulsing will help to awaken and empower the healing processes of your body. Any tension, anxiety, stress and pain is soothed away, and through gentle movement blockages and obstacles relax, allowing the natural healing ability with which you were born and which lies at the core of your being to manifest.

As I give, I get, the more I get, the more I give
To understand the human body and its make up, René Descartes (1596 ? 1650) a French philosopher, scientist, and mathematician, required bodies for medical research and dissection. The Roman Catholic Church held a strong influence on Descartes through out his life and the situation was regarded as an abomination to god and the church. After much discussion and debate with the church hierarchy it was agreed that the church would retain control over man?s spiritual body, the emotional body and soul thereby allowing Descartes the bodies he needed for research.
Unfortunately with the churches involvement over three hundred years ago the separation of the body and the mind was condemned and the framework was set for what is now our modern day healthcare system. Yes, we all agree that this separation has given us a greater understanding of the nature and treatment of diseases, but we must also admit that is has made us rely more on conventional modern Western medical practices where Doctors treat patients by breaking bodily illness into separate pieces -? they treat the symptoms, they do no take into account the patients emotional wellbeing, thoughts, feelings and/or situations and events that are happening in that persons life. Patients are not treated holistically.
For too long now we have been brought up on this linear approach of healing. The doctor patient model - one is the giver, the doer, the healer, the other the receiver, the taker, the patient - and for a long time now we have been saying how we wish to break away from that model and be treated on all levels - mind, body and soul/spirit.
But times are changing; researchers are finding that many traditional systems of medicine are beginning to incorporate body mind relationships into their practice. A variety of mind body therapies are being utilized including hypnotherapy, guided imagery, biofeedback, reiki, holistic pulsing, these modalities promote physical and mental relaxation and give us tools to better cope with stress, the main instigator for a lot of mans diseases. The practitioner is able to monitor the patient and incorporates the use of more conventional medicines if required - a more natural and holistic way of healing wouldn't you agree?
Mind/body medicine is based on the understanding and recognition of the relationship between mind and body, the body's innate healing potential, and the partnership of patient and healer in restoring the body to health.
We have the tools now to take healing to another paradigm - whether that is energetic healing or the various types or natural therapies available. What I would like to introduce you to today is what we in Holistic Pulsing call "two way healing" .
We find in the doctor/patient, carer/patient, healer/healee, giver/receiver models that there is so much burnout - always doing, never receiving, it becomes very tiring and energy draining. Ultimately we reach a point where we can give no more. Something happens to make us stop, we get sick, we might break a bone, hurt our back, get the flu which puts us in bed for a few days, our body is telling us that we need to replenish our energies. How often have you found this happening in your life? To those round you at work, family, friends, mothers, fathers? We all have some type of pressure/stressor in our life where we are always doing something for another.
With Holistic Pulsing offer a different approach in healing, which is basically ?
As I give, I get, the more I get, the more I give
The giver is the receiver, the receiver is the giver
The more I receive the more I naturally give
While I pulse I am here for you
While I pulse I am here for me.
Each Holistic Pulsing session gives numerous opportunities for being aware of ourselves! Of how we live, patterns in our life. For example we may find ourself working hard to make a rock/pulse happen. And we think "Is this a reflection on how I live my life?" Pulsing teaches that as you start to do less and allow, the more happens, you are relaxed, the person on the table relaxes and they too being to become aware of parts of them that are tight and restricted, the parts that are relaxed and flowing, the patterns in their life, their blockages.
Holistic Pulsing, a gentle vehicle of self exploration and empowerment, creates a safe, nurturing environment, allowing us to make contact with the deep inner resources of body mind which in turn stimulates the body's intrinsic natural healing abilities.

The gentle healing benefits of Holistic Pulsing can help us to improve physical health, calm the mind and emotions, reduce stress and unlock new possibilities for optimal health.
Holistic Pulsing works with the body and mind? as a quick explanation - Body mind therapies explore how life experience takes shape in the human body, it is a discipline which studies, explores and works with feelings, thoughts and actions as they are expressed and transformed in every dimension of our physical lives.
We perceive our world from a body mind perspective, we sense, feel, think, and intuit. When the spoken word and transmitted feelings don?t match we wonder and react to those contradictions, not with our mind, but with our body-mind.
Our bodies and minds function together as parts of an interconnected system and interact with each other. Current research shows that although our conscious brain stores some memory, deeper, older messages are stored in the subconscious mind and the body. This means that deep-seated emotions can only be accessed through the body and the subconscious. We are not able to heal our emotions or our body by just talk alone.
Connecting with the body mind through Holistic Pulsing can help access areas that hold stress, dis-ease and tension, and by becoming aware of an issue is the first step in reducing it. By enhancing the connection between mind and body, we hold the ultimate key in allowing the body?s natural healing process to operate more effectively.
The body communicates our needs, it tells us when we are hungry, thirsty, tired, angry, sad, ? the list goes on. But, we also need to recognise that the body also has a valid reason for becoming sick.. most of what we call illnesses are actually healthy reactions to unhealthy situations (here is the body mind in full working order), if we are not closely listening or in touch with our body through awareness things can go wrong.
We add insult to injury when we put our selves down through, among other things, negative self talk and thoughts, add to that those times we try to fix a symptom with out addressing the reason as to why it was manifest in the first place (eg headaches, shoulder, back and neck pain), we ultimately cover the symptoms, but the treatment might then become more damaging than the illness itself. Our inner self then has no choice but to come back even louder and more insistent then before just to be heard.
To help in getting to know your body and gain some insight as to how your body mind works, try the following explorative exercise. I use this exercise in my Holistic Pulsing workshops; it assists in becoming more sensitively aware of your bodily experience.
Stand in a relaxed position ?? close your eyes and look inward. ?. Sense a particular part of your self. Sense its shape, its function, and its feelings???.. If there is something you want to know about that body part just ask? Feel your body and sense what is going on. Maybe some places are tight, some more relaxed. If you do feel tension, exactly how is the tension pulling; is it up, down, back? Listen to your body, what sounds do you hear? Is it a cry, a scream, laughter? What song is it singing? is the music fast, slow, happy, does the song have words? Notice the different parts of your body ? how do they feel? Do they feel alike? Imagine walking with your partner, a child, your father, what happens to your body? Allow your body full permission to express itself, it may be in words, feelings, sounds, movement or images??..Breathe slowly and deeply into the whole of your being, and notice what has changed.
We need to remember that our body is full of wisdom; it holds the answers. Our body gives us clues all the time, it?s waiting, hoping that one day we will stop and listen, and when we do it will be just a matter of opening ourselves up and learning the its?s hidden language ? that of the holistic connection of the mind and body.
Holistic Pulsing, a gentle vehicle of self exploration and empowerment, creates a safe, nurturing environment, allowing us to make contact with the deep inner resources of body mind which in turn stimulates the body?s intrinsic natural healing abilities.
